Kelly Harnett

President, Treasurer and Founder

Kelly has been a resident of Spearfish for about seven years and has been in the Black Hills for more than a decade. She is an AVP mortgage originator with BankWest Mortgage, where she uses her decades of experience to help individuals realize their dreams of home ownership.

Kelly has founded two local nonprofits: Hobo’s Healing Heart and Beautify Spearfish. She thrives on being involved in her community and is on the boards of Black Hills Regional Ski for Light and the Northern Black Hills Rotary Club. She is a Spearfish Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador and has also been involved in her church.

An animal and wildlife lover, Kelly has worked as a wildlife biologist and a wildland firefighter in Ohio. She has degrees in natural resource management, fish and wildlife management, and fisheries and wildlife conservation and biology. She is working on a Master of Science in Sustainability at Black Hills State University. Her emphasis on native pollinators will benefit her work with Beautify Spearfish. She also volunteers on wildlife studies locally and across the country.

Kelly’s love of animals has led her to foster and rehabilitate more than 150 neglected and abused dogs.

Kelly’s fur family includes Mater, a German wirehair/golden retriever/German shepherd mix; Golden, a lab-cattle dog mix; Douglas, a miniature Aussie; and her cats, Kitten, Gideon, and Liam the Lion.

Hobo, the namesake for this organization, was Kelly’s companion and best friend from 2000-2012.
